European Blackjack at won — the classic card counting game now available to Bangladeshi players
This classic card game of reaching 21 against the dealer does not rely on luck alone — making the right decisions can reduce the house edge. Everything from the rules to strategy is laid out clearly here.
How a Round Works
European Blackjack typically uses two decks. A round begins by placing your bet. The dealer then gives each player two face-up cards and keeps only one face-up card for themselves — this is the main difference from American Blackjack. The dealer's second card (the hole card) is not drawn until all players have completed their turns.
Card values are counted as follows: cards 2 through 10 are worth their face value, J, Q and K are each worth 10, and A is worth 1 or 11, whichever keeps the hand in a better position. The goal is to get closer to 21 than the dealer without going over (Bust).
On your turn you must decide: take another card (Hit), keep your current hand (Stand), double your bet on your first two cards (Double Down), or separate two cards of equal value into two hands (Split). Once all players have finished, the dealer reveals their second card and keeps drawing until they reach 17 or higher.
The player whose hand is higher than the dealer's but within 21 wins. If the dealer Busts, all remaining players at the table win. Getting 21 on the first two cards (Ace + a 10-value card) is Blackjack — the highest payout available.
Bet Types and Payouts
European Blackjack offers several types of bets, each with a different payout. Knowing these makes it easier to decide at the table.
Regular Win
1:1If you beat the dealer, you win an amount equal to your bet.
Blackjack
3:2If your first two cards are an Ace and a 10-value card, you win 1.5 times your bet.
Push
Bet returnedIf the player and dealer have equal hands, your bet is returned — no win or loss.
Insurance
2:1If the dealer's first card is an Ace, you can place an Insurance bet. If the dealer has Blackjack, the Insurance payout is made.
Double Down
Bet × 2After receiving your first two cards, you can double your bet, but you will then receive only one more card.
Split
Two separate handsIf you have two cards of equal value, you can split them into two separate hands, placing a new bet on each.
Understanding the House Edge
The house edge in Blackjack is generally lower than in most casino games. In the European variant, using only two decks and specific rules brings it down further — often to around 0.5% to 0.6% when basic strategy is followed correctly.
However, the Insurance bet and the dealer's rules (such as whether the dealer Hits or Stands on Soft 17) can affect the house edge. The Insurance bet generally does not favour the player over the long run — experts usually advise avoiding it unless you are skilled at card counting.
It is important to read the game conditions — whether the Blackjack payout is 3:2 or 6:5 has a direct impact on the house edge. At won Casino, the table rules can be checked before you start.
Basic Strategy for Beginners
Even without memorising basic strategy, keeping these simple guidelines in mind makes decisions much easier.
| Situation | Recommendation | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Hand of 11 or less | Always Hit | There is no risk of Busting, so taking a card is safe. |
| Hard hand of 17 or more | Always Stand | The risk of Busting is high; wait for the dealer to Bust. |
| Hand of 10 or 11, dealer shows 2–9 | Consider Double Down | The chance of drawing a high card is good; a solid opportunity to double your bet. |
| Two Aces or two 8s | Always Split | A chance to build two strong hands; 16 is the weakest hand. |
| Two 5s or two 10s | Avoid Splitting | 20 or 10 are strong hands — splitting risks creating two weaker hands. |
| Soft hand (with Ace) of 17 or less | Hit or Double Down | The Ace can count as 1, so there is no risk of Busting. |
| Dealer shows 4, 5 or 6 | Stand or Double Down | The dealer is more likely to Bust — better not to take unnecessary risks yourself. |
Live Dealer vs Digital Table
Live Dealer Blackjack
At a live dealer table, a trained dealer deals cards in front of a real camera. These games are streamed directly from studios such as Evolution, Pragmatic Play Live, and Ezugi, and include a chat feature. The experience feels much like sitting at a real table — you can see the cards and talk to the dealer.
Live tables generally have slightly higher bet limits, though lower-limit tables are also available. These tables can be found in the Live Casino section of won Casino.
Digital (RNG) Blackjack
In the computer-driven digital version, a Random Number Generator (RNG) produces the cards, so each hand is completely independent. You can play at your own pace, take breaks easily, and bet limits are generally lower — making it a good option for new players to get experience.
For those learning Blackjack for the first time, practising at a digital table before moving to live is the easiest path. You can refer to a basic strategy chart while playing, which may not always be possible in a live game.
The importance of correct strategy is the same in both versions. However, live games have time pressure — the dealer asks you to decide within a limited time. For those who prefer playing at their own pace like in slots, the won Slots section is also worth a look.
Table Limits and Bet Ranges
Low Bet Tables
Low-limit digital and live tables are available for new or cautious players. You can keep playing with small bets, making these good for trying out new strategies.
Standard Tables
Most players play at mid-limit tables. The bet range is fairly wide, so it is easy to raise or lower your bets according to your strategy.
VIP and High-Limit Tables
Special high-bet tables are available for experienced players and VIP members. Members of the won VIP programme receive additional benefits at these tables.
Specific table limits may change over time and can differ between live and digital versions. Reading the terms and conditions will give you the full details.
